One of the most exciting discoveries for me during the writing of Finer Women was Annie Turnbo Malone. She became an honorary member of Zeta during the early 1920s, and she’s in group Zeta photographs in Howard University yearbooks, but for some reason she’s not discussed. Why is that?
It blows my mind because not only was she an honorary member before Madam Evanti, she just so happened to be the first black woman to reach millionaire status…yes, yes, even before Madam CJ Walker (her protegee). Check out this cool video about the astounding Mrs. Malone.
